About This Spot

Stepping into ShangHai Taste in Las Vegas’s bustling Chinatown feels like slipping into a tucked-away corner of Shanghai itself, where time slows just enough to savor the little rituals of a well-loved meal. The soft clatter of bamboo steamers and the rhythmic folding of dumplings in the open kitchen invite you to settle into a comfortable, unhurried rhythm. Despite the steady hum of activity and the weekend crowd’s ebb and flow, the space retains a warm, grounded energy that makes it easy to feel both part of the scene and pleasantly removed from the city's usual rush.

The atmosphere here is a lively blend of purposeful movement and quiet familiarity — servers move deftly between tables, and diners often watch the hand-rolled dumplings being expertly prepared. The ordering process, with its note-writing system, adds a tactile, personal touch that connects you more directly with the kitchen’s craft. It’s not a place for pretense or flair, but for genuine moments of shared appreciation around food made thoughtfully, without fuss.

The tastes that define ShangHai Taste quietly call attention to the depth and balance of Shanghainese cooking. From the delicate soup dumplings that release their savory broth with every careful bite, to the comforting richness of house-fried rice and silky noodles glistening with scallion oil, each dish feels like an invitation to slow down and savor the nuances. There’s a satisfying mix of textures and warmth throughout the menu, whether it’s the crispy pan-fried dumplings offering a contrast in every mouthful, or the fragrant cold bean curd noodles that refresh and enliven the palate. The dishes unfold gently, more a conversation of flavors than a bold announcement.

Though the location in a lively shopping plaza means parking and crowds can sometimes present a bit of a challenge, it only underscores the neighborhood’s authenticity and the genuine draw this place holds. There’s something quietly magnetic about a spot where locals return again and again — drawn by the blend of comfort and discovery, the straightforward yet deeply satisfying flavors, and the small, human moments shared over bowls of steaming broth and plates of carefully considered fare. ShangHai Taste is less about spectacle and more about those subtle pleasures that linger long after the meal ends.

Food/Taste/Flavor: 5/5 - and we're back again! Always a great place to go for XLB. We ordered Traditional Shanghai Xiao Long Bao, Spicy Wonton in Chili Oil Sauce, and House Fried Rice with Shrimp. Food was delicious without being salty. The XLB was sweeter than I remembered but still enjoyable. The spicy wontons were great and my SO used the chili oil soup for the XLB and the fried rice. The fried rice was simple but quite flavorful and they were generous with the amount of shrimp given. Service: 5/5 - we did visit the location just before 5 so it was empty with no wait. Service was very quick still and they were at our table refilling the tea the moment we ran out. Ambiance: 5/5 - since it was before dinner rush, the restaurant was quiet but you can hear the conversation from the kitchen. Value for price: 5/5 - it' is a bit more expensive than we remember but understandable considering the price increase in all the restaurants in the area.

I ventured to Chinatown just outside the Strip of Las Vegas to satisfy my inner foodie and try the soup dumplings from Shanghai Taste. The parking lot was very busy but I managed to snag a parking spot in front of the restaurant. I placed my name in the waiting list and waited 10 minutes until my name was called. You can watch the employees hand rolling the soup dumplings while you wait. I ordered the following items: 1) Shanghai Scallion Pancake - $4.95 2) Traditional Shanghai Xiao Long Bai - $11.95 3) Angus Beef Xiao Long Bao - $11.95 The scallion pancake had a perfect crisp and was not too oily. It was a nice texture change from the soft soup dumplings. I preferred the Traditional over the Angus Beef Xiao Long Bao. The Traditional was done great minus the slightly thicker skin on the dumplings. The beef had great flavor but was a slightly chewier bite. I feel this restaurant is worth the trip to enjoy the soup dumplings!

This is located in busy Shanghai Plaza. Traffic and parking can be difficult, especially on the weekends. My favorite was the pan fried soup dumplings. The Xiao Long Bao was also very good. Take them seriously when they tell you to be careful because the food is hot! My only knock is they don’t bring out finely slivered ginger to accompany the dumplings. Prices are reasonable and the service was excellent.

Delicious! A perfect stop for lunch or dinner if you can get a table. Definitely try the Shanghai rice cakes. Affordable and speedy service as well (you write on a card to order, and they have an open kitchen where you can watch them make dumplings) this place is well known for a reason!

The shengjian bao were great — crispy skin, lots of soup, and well-seasoned filling. The pork xiao long bao were also tasty with a clean, savory broth. I really liked the cold shredded tofu, which was fragrant and nicely chewy. The Shanghai spicy noodle soup was disappointing: the broth had almost no flavor and potatoes were used instead of bamboo shoots. The soy sauce duck was also underwhelming. Worth coming for the dumplings, but I’d skip the noodles and duck.

There’s so much to say about Shanghai Taste and yet this review alone won’t do it enough justice. This is a true hidden gem in the Vegas area. Located in Vegas’ Chinatown, Shanghai Taste is pretty accessible with a large parking lot out front and with it being a short 10 min drive from the strip. The interior feels humble, ruddy showing of the chefs preparing the dumplings as you wait for your table. We arrived with a large party of 10 or so and had to wait about 10 minutes before we could be seated. They don’t have many seats so reservations are a must here. When we were seated we ordered just about half the entire menu. We got traditional soup dumplings, fish dumplings, pan fried dumplings, two different fried rice, scallion pancakes, chicken chow mein, and wok choy. Every. Single. Thing. Was. Extraordinary. which is even crazier to think about because Shanghainese is typically not our go to type anyways. The soup dumplings in particular are among, if not, the best we’ve ever had. The chow mein was cooked perfectly with moist pieces of chicken throughout. The scallion pancakes were even fantastic for as simple of a dish as it can be. All this and you even get free hot tea to help wash some of it down. It was astonishing just how good every dish could be. Although it’s off the strip, as Chinese food goes, this is a must stop by. The food is incredible. It isn’t going to wow you like other restaurants on the strip with a nice presentation or a breathtaking setting, but we guarantee you on taste alone this will be one of the best Chinese food places you’ve ever been to (and we’re from the Bay and NYC). If you like Chinese food, or even just food for that matter, then do yourself a favor and stop by here immediately.
